About PCDC

In spring 2012, a group of us who lived, worked, and served in Newark, New Jersey got together to discuss how we could empower Newark residents to improve their neighborhoods, and ways to help deter young men from the cycles of underachievement and crime that were so prevalent among their peers. We considered what might be the impact of citizens being fully engaged in revitalizing their own communities.  We also wondered what might be the outcome of a mentoring program – spearheaded by outstanding male community leaders – that provided young men a positive outlet for their social development.  Not long after, these passionate considerations gave way to the formation of Partnerships Community Development Corporation (PCDC).

PCDC is a nonprofit community development corporation whose mission is to lead the renewal of impoverished, urban communities by providing citizens empowerment, education, and engagement. To achieve its mission, PCDC operates the following:

  • An academic enrichment and social development program for young men ages 14-17 – Males Empowering our Neighborhood (M.E.N.)

  • Community revitalization efforts aimed to beautify neighborhoods, engage with and educate citizens, and provide community service opportunities for local youth – particularly young men participating in the M.E.N. Program

PCDC has established Newark, New Jersey as the target location for implementing programs and developing key partnerships.  These key partnerships allow PCDC to provide outstanding services to residents of Newark and greater Essex County communities
